1Information stored on your device
The following is written to a private database on your phone and never leaves it:
- Your shop profile (business name, mobile number, TIN/BIN)
- Customers and suppliers (names, phone numbers)
- The credit ledger (বাকির খাতা) — amounts owed and paid
- Sales, purchases, returns, and receipts
- Cash book entries and day-open/day-close records
- Stock, products, prices, and product photos
- Loyalty points, reminders, and app settings
This data is protected by Android's app sandbox, which prevents other apps from reading it. You can add a PIN lock in Settings for extra protection.
Deleting the app removes this database from your phone. Because we never receive a copy, deletion is complete and immediate — there is nothing for you to request from us.
2Information we collect
Nothing — unless you use the optional shelf-photo import described in §3. Outside that one feature, Dokan has no user accounts, no sign-in, no cloud sync, and no backend server, and makes no network requests.
We do not collect your name, phone number, location, contact list, device identifiers, or usage statistics.
About your mobile number. When you first set up Dokan, the app asks for your business name and mobile number. That number stays on your phone. It is used only on your device — to identify your shop on the receipts you print, to form your receipt numbers, and as the recovery code if you forget your PIN. It is not used to create any account, and it is never sent to us — Dokan has no server that receives it. It does appear in things you deliberately share: printed on the receipts you hand out, inside the WhatsApp/SMS links in the e-receipt QR, and in the backups and statements you choose to send. Those go only to the recipients you pick, never to us. The same is true of the customer and supplier phone numbers you record: they live in the on-device database and leave it only inside things you choose to share.
3The optional shelf-photo import (the only online feature)
Dokan has one optional online feature: you can photograph a shop shelf and have the products on it read into your stock list automatically. Because this runs on a paid AI service that we provide for free, it sits behind a sign-in so each account gets a fair daily quota. If you never use it, the app makes no network requests at all.
Not every version of Dokan includes this feature; in versions without it, the app has no sign-in at all.
When you use it, exactly two things leave your phone:
- Your email address (and, with Google sign-in, the name on your Google account) — you sign in with your Google account or with an email and password. This is stored with our authentication provider (Supabase) solely to operate the sign-in and the daily quota. Your mobile number is not part of this sign-in and is never sent.
- The shelf photos you choose to submit — each photo is sent to our server function, passed to Google's Gemini API to read the product names and prices, and the extracted list is returned to your phone. We do not store your photos.
Like any internet connection, these requests also carry basic technical connection data — your IP address and device information — to our service providers, used only to operate and secure the service. Google may retain submitted images for a short period under its API terms, so avoid photographing pages that show other people's information: a photographed খাতা page sends everything written on it.
The only record we keep is a count of how many extractions your account ran each day. None of your shop records — sales, customers, ledger, cash book, phone numbers — is ever uploaded.
To delete this account and the email address it holds, email us at aimsoftbd@gmail.com and we will remove it.
4Contacts
If you choose to add a customer from your phone contacts, Dokan asks for permission to read your contacts so it can show you a list to pick from.
- Your contacts are read on your device only, to display that list.
- Only the name and phone number of the contact you select are saved into Dokan's local database on your phone.
- Your contact list is never uploaded, transmitted, or shared with us or anyone else.
You can decline this permission and still use the app fully — you would simply type customer details in by hand.
6Advertising and analytics
Dokan contains no advertising, no behavioural analytics, no crash reporting, and no tracking libraries. We do not profile you, and we have no data to sell.
One narrow exception to disclose: the barcode scanner is built on Google's ML Kit, which scans entirely on your device but may send Google diagnostic data about its own performance — basic device information, never your photos, your barcodes, or any shop data. This is listed under “Diagnostics” in Dokan's Play Store data-safety section.
7Permissions and why they are used
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
| Camera | Scan barcodes and take product photos |
| Contacts | Let you pick a customer from your phone contacts (see §4) |
| Bluetooth | Print receipts to a thermal receipt printer |
| Notifications | Remind you to open/close the day, chase dues, warn about low or expiring stock |
| Exact alarms | Fire those reminders at the time you set |
| Storage (Android 9 and older) | Save backup files to your Downloads folder |
All notifications are generated on your phone. Dokan does not use push notifications and has no server that could send you one.
Dokan also declares the standard Internet permission. It is used only by the optional shelf-photo import (see §3); outside that feature the app makes no network requests.
8Children
Dokan is a business tool intended for shop owners and is not directed to children under 18. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children.
9Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top and publish the new version at this address. If a future version of Dokan ever adds a feature that sends data off your device, we will update this policy before that version is released and make the change clear in the app.
